Introduction

You can work towards the International Certificate by studying the OHMS Training Intermediate Modules.

These are 5-day instructor-led courses that provide practical, hands-on training. Students are taught in small groups by our approved trainers and the courses are very interactive with workshops and exercises. We also cater for online participants.

Candidates will understand the techniques for assessing exposure to hazardous substances in workplace and how exposure information can be used to assess risk.

Delivery Methods

We are delighted to announce that we will now be delivering our courses remotely on the video conferencing platform GoTo, enabling students to receive the same level of technical learning as they would in the classroom.

All materials are delivered in advance to participants including those for practical assessments. Exams are also held online.

Outcomes

  • Describe the general approach to health risk assessment, including the role of atmospheric monitoring.
  • Select appropriate equipment to measure specific airborne contaminants and devise a suitable sampling strategy.
  • Present the results for health risk assessment purposes to comply with relevant legislation.
  • The syllabus has been structured to cover seven sections:
    • Risk Assessment
    • Air Sampling Theory and Practice
    • Air Sampling Equipment
    • Sample Analysis
    • Hygiene Standards
    • Biological Monitoring
    • Calculation, Interpretation and Presentation of Results

Assessment

On completion of each module, you will receive an Award of Successful Course Completion for that module.

To obtain the International Certificate, you must complete six modules, including four core subjects and two others chosen from three options.

Accreditation

Occupational Hygienists who have COH status are also eligible to gain COH points for their attendance and completion of the ICertOH modules.

For each 5 day module COHs will gain 1 point per day with a total of 5 points.

International Certificate in Occupational Hygiene

The ICertOH is a British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Certificate of Operational Competence, for outside of the UK, that firstly requires the successful completion of 6 modules, other modules include.

the other core subjects:

W503 Noise – Measurement and its Effect

W505 Control of Hazardous Substances;

W507 Health Effects of Hazardous Substances;

the optional subjects:

W502 Thermal Environment;

W504 Asbestos and Other Fibres;

W506 Ergonomics Essentials.

To be awarded the ICertOH a Personal Learning Portfolio must also be completed after the 6 modules. Candidates that wish to complete a Personal Learning Portfolio will need to collect evidence that demonstrates you have applied your knowledge in practical situations. This will be documented in a Personal Learning Portfolio. Full details on completing a Personal Learning Portfolio can be found in the Qualification Guide. Compiling of a portfolio should start as early as possible after completing the first ICertOH course. Once the portfolio is completed an application can be made for an intermediate level interview for the award of the International Certificate in Occupational Hygiene.
